Phobos, Iapetus, Sherlock Holmes, and Artificial ET Satellites?!

By Thomas Horn
Senior RNU News Reporter

RNU.com – (Raiders News Update) A feature article this week by Space Daily asks us to "Imagine if the illustrious Sherlock Holmes lived in modern times. He might decide to take on the challenge of solving the mysterious disappearance of the Beagle 2, a British spacecraft that vanished without a trace after entering the atmosphere of Mars on Christmas Day, 2003."

Okay, I'm imagining...

Perhaps Sherlock would find that the Beagle 2 went the way of many other spacecraft, "vanished" by a mysterious force that is as yet unknown to human explorers. Two-thirds of all international missions to the red planet have failed under similar circumstances, some from technical glitches no doubt, maybe even all of them.

"On the Other Hand, My Good Watson, the Game is Afoot!"

The famous "Phobos Missions" indicate that, on the other hand, something more than a glitch could have dispatched the failed Beagle 2.

In 1988, Phobos One, and its companion spacecraft Phobos Two were launched to conduct surface and atmospheric studies of Mars and its Martian moon Phobos. Phobos One disappeared enroute to the Phobos Moon while Phobos Two, sent as a replacement probe to establish geosynchronous orbit around Mars, photographed anomalous structures and a network of rectangular shapes and straight lines that, after study by scientists, were determined by some to possess higher-than-average artificial probabilities. Top that off with what many believe was a fifteen-mile-long UFO, which appeared just before the Phobos Two went dead, and you've got a true mystery.

"It's Simplicity Itself, Watson, Elementary!"

If Sherlock were indeed on the case, would he discover that what had happened to the Beagle 2 also happened to the Russian probes? Would he find this was because the Phobos "moon" is in fact an ancient, hollow, artificial satellite, standing guard on the planet Mars?

Don't laugh.

Dr. S. Fred Singer, special advisor to President Eisenhower on space development, believed this very thing, as did renowned Soviet astrophysicist Shklovsky.

Raymond H. Wilson Jr., Chief of Applied Mathematics at NASA, joined Shklovsky and Dr. Singer's advanced-artificiality conclusions in 1963. He even stated that the Phobos moon could be "...a colossal base orbiting Mars."

More recently, cuspid-like formations found on Phobos could lend proof that Fred Singer and Co. were right all along. Efrain Palermo and Lan Fleming have been investigating a highly curious sharp-edged anomaly called the "Phobos Monolith", which some say is a true construct of unknown origin and functionality.

"To the Moon of Saturn, My Good Doctor, Iapetus!"

"It's a 'moon' -- but a moon like no other known," says Richard C. Hoagland, bestselling author of The Monuments on Mars, of Saturn's moon Iapetus. Hoagland believes that Iapetus, like Phobos, could be "...a very ancient spaceship … placed in orbit around Saturn for 'some reason' … a long, long time ago."

Hoagland is a former NASA consultant and during the historic Apollo Missions to the Moon, was science advisor to Walter Cronkite and CBS News. For the past two decades, he and his team have fanatically focused on what he alleges are intelligently-designed artifacts on Mars. His work cites data from American and Soviet lunar missions as proof of ET coverup by government, science and military officials.

Yet are we really to believe that Phobos, Iapetus, and/or other "moons" around the galaxy, are potentially artificial satellites built by ancient and highly advanced ETs at some point in the extreme past?

Hoagland says yes here.

"For What Purpose? To Vanquish Moriarty!"

Armed with Hoagland's Enterprise Mission and on assignment for Raiders News Update, would Sherlock discover that the Beagle 2 was zapped by a moon-sized artificial satellite guarding unknown secrets of the Red Planet? Would extraterrestrial "Moriarty" zip from Saturn's moon, Iapetus, to fight him? In the quest for disclosure, I, for one, am more than happy to turn over to the preeminent investigator our document, obtained when a good friend with top security clearance--whose name and position with the government won't be mentioned for obvious reasons--was asked what he made of all this:

Tom, two landers touched down on the planet Mars in what was to become an international search for life. The British Beagle 2 reached the red planet on the day the Savior’s birth was celebrated, December 25th, 2003 and immediately disappeared. European scientists examining images of the lander’s separation from the mothership were startled to find an unidentified object nearby. Shortly after, NASA’s Spirit Rover rolled onto the Gusev Crater, a lake-like depression south of the Martian equator, and began transmitting unexpected images and data from that anomalous terrain. Within days and without explanation, it abruptly stopped. Engineers from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory worked on the problem, and the rover was rebooted. But--and here is what you don't know yet--it then photographed something that defied explanation… something that wasn’t supposed to be seen... something you'll know about soon enough...

I wondered. Was this a reference to what look like artificial structures on Mars, such as these.

Then I was told it's much more substantial.

I also understand how all of this sounds.

But ready or not, Sherlock, the world will soon know the explanation to this mystery, and you'd better have your cosmological and theological cap on, because it is coming whether you want it to or not.

From Biometric Scanning to Microchips and the Mark of the Beast?

Or, How We Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Coming of Antichrist!

By Thomas Horn
For NewsWithViews.Com

Today I learned that Madras High School in the little town of Madras, Oregon is the latest government institution to allow students to pay for their lunch with the swipe of a hand.

Only yesterday in a related event, Chief of Police Jack Schmidig of Bergen County, FL, a member of the police force for over 30 years, received a VeriChip as part of Applied Digital Solution's strategy of enlisting key regional leaders to accelerate adoption of its implantable product.

Kevin H. McLaughlin, VeriChip Corporation's CEO said of the event that "High-profile regional leaders are accepting the VeriChip, representing an excellent example of our approach to gaining adoption of the technology."

The new and aggressive indoctrination program - Thought and Opinion Leaders to Play Key Role in Adoption of VeriChip - is intended to create widespread acceptance and exponential adaptation of the company's FDA-cleared, human-implantable RFID tag.

Earlier this year ADS provided testimony that safeguards have been implemented to ensure privacy in connection with implantable microchips. ADS received patent rights to Digital Angel (TM) technology on December 10, 1999. What set Digital Angel apart from the competition was the innovative design--a miniature digital transceiver specifically created for human implantation.

According to information released last year the implantable transceiver "sends and receives data and can be continuously tracked by GPS (Global Positioning Satellite) technology. The transceiver's power supply and actuation system are unlike anything ever created. When implanted within a body, the device is powered electromechanically through the movement of muscles, and it can be activated either by the 'wearer' or by the monitoring facility."

An Information Technology report recently verified plans to study implantable chips as a method of tracking terrorists. After first pulling back from the implantable version of its Digital Angel, ADS foresees a unique use of its product under the new name VeriChip in the wake of terrorist attacks in New York and Washington.

"We've changed out thinking since September 11," a company spokesman said, "Now there's more of a need to monitor evil activities."

ADS also claims the VeriChip (Digital Angel) has a variety of other uses, such as "providing a tamper-proof means of identification for enhanced e-business security, animal tracking, locating lost or missing individuals, tracking the location of valuable property and monitoring the medical conditions of at-risk patients."

Following the Internet World Wireless 2001 award for "Best of Show: Client Services," Mercedes Walton, President and COO of Applied Digital Solutions, said: ``We have always had high expectations for the Digital Angel products. This award is truly a validation of our faith in Digital Angel's ability to capture the imagination of the public. Consumer anticipation has translated into accelerated interest from potential partners and allies. We are eager to bring Digital Angel to the marketplace in a very timely manner...."

To further advocate Digital Angel technology, Applied Digital Solutions launched a website http://www.digitalangel.net where viewers can peruse diagrams and read summary information.

Other manufacturers of sub-skin implants have quietly field-tested similar devices over the past few years. The London Times reported in October 1998, "Film stars and the children of millionaires are among 45 people, including several Britons, who have been fitted with the chips (called the Sky Eye) in secret tests."

Due to civil liberty and privacy issues, the ACLU announced opposition to mandatory microchip implantation when applied to humans. The ACLU is certain to be a strange bedfellow of Christians and conservatives concerning this issue.

THE FULFILLMENT OF PROPHECY?

Many people believe that, before long, an antichrist system will appear. It will be a New World Order, under which national boundaries dissolve, and ethnic groups, ideologies, religions, and economics from around the world, orchestrate a single and dominant sovereignty. The system will supposedly be free of religious and political extremes, and membership will tolerate the philosophical and cultural differences of its constituents. Except for minor nonconformities, war, terrorism, and hunger will be a thing of the past.

According to popular Biblical interpretation, a single personality will surface at the head of the utopian administration. He will appear as a man of distinguished character, but will ultimately become "a king of fierce countenance" (Dan. 8:23).

With imperious decree the Antichrist will facilitate the one-world government, universal religion, and globally monitored socialism. Those who refuse his New World Order will inevitably be imprisoned or destroyed, until at last he exalts himself "above all that is called God, or that is worshiped, so that he, as God, sitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God" (2 Thess. 2:4).

The Antichrist's widespread power will be derived at the expense of individual human liberties. He will force "all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six [666]" (Rev. 13:16-18).

For many years the idea that humans could somehow succumb to little more than branded cattle, and that rugged individualism would thereafter be sacrificed for an anesthetized universal harmony, was repudiated by America’s greatest minds.

Then, in the 1970’s, things began to change. Following a call by Nelson Rockefeller for the creation of a "New World Order," presidential candidate Jimmy Carter campaigned, saying, "We must replace balance of power politics with world order politics."

During the 1980's President George Bush continued the one-world dirge, announcing over national television that "a New World Order" had arrived. Following the initial broadcast, President Bush addressed the Congress, saying, "What is at stake is more than one small country [Kuwait], it is a big idea--a new world order, where diverse nations are drawn together in common cause to achieve the universal aspirations of mankind: peace and security, freedom, and the rule of law. Such is a world worthy of our struggle, and worthy of our children’s future!"

Ever since the President's astonishing newscast, a parade of political and religious leaders have discharged a profusion of rhetoric aimed at implementing the goals of a New World Order.

Developers of biometric implant chips employ similar language in announcing compatible global technologies, and many Americans consider electronically marking humans or implanting a series of digital equations beneath the skin to be the natural progress of advancing and necessary technologies.

IT SHOULD COME AS NO SURPRISE

Some people believe implantable microchips will be the Biblical Mark of the Beast. These claim that acts of terrorism such as the ones in New York and Washington, encourage microchipping humans for identification purposes.

But even before the New York and Pentagon tragedies, a push was being made to brand and monitor humanity.

Consider the following:

* As far back as 1973, Senior Scholastics introduced school age children to the concept of buying and selling using numbers inserted in their forehead. In the September 20, 1973 feature "Who Is Watching You?" the secular high school journal speculated: "All buying and selling in the program will be done by computer. No currency, no change, no checks. In the program, people would receive a number that had been assigned them tattooed in their wrist or forehead. The number is put on by laser beam and cannot be felt. The number in the body is not seen with the naked eye and is as permanent as your fingerprints. All items of consumer goods will be marked with a computer mark. The computer outlet in the store which picks up the number on the items at the checkstand will also pick up the number in the person's body and automatically total the price and deduct the amount from the person's 'Special Drawing Rights' account."

* In the 1974 article "The Specter of Eugenics," Charles Frankel pointed out Linus Pauling's (Nobel Prize winner) suggestions that a mark be tattooed on the foot or forehead of every young person. Pauling envisioned a mark denoting genotype.

* In 1980, U.S. News and World Report continued the warning, pointing out that the Federal Government was contemplating "National Identity Cards," without which nobody could work or conduct business.

* The Denver Post Sun followed up in 1981, claiming that chip implants could someday replace I.D. cards. The June 21, 1981 story read in part, "The chip is placed in a needle which is affixed to a simple syringe containing an anti-bacterial solution. The needle is capped and ready to forever identify something--or somebody."

* The May 7, 1996 Chicago Tribune questioned the technology, wondering aloud if we could trust Big Brother under our skin?

* Then in 1997 applications for patents of subcutaneous implant devices for "a person or an animal" were applied for.

* On April 27, 1998, Time Magazine ran the story, The Big Bank Theory And What It Says About The Future OF Money, in which they opined "Your daughter can store the money any way she wants--on her laptop, on a debit card, even (in the not too distant future) on a chip implanted under her skin."

* In August 1998 the BBC covered the first known human microchip implantation.

* That same month the Sunday Oregonian warned that proposed medical identifiers might erode privacy rights by tracking individuals through alphanumeric health identifier technologies. The startling Oregonian feature depicted humans with barcodes in their foreheads.

* Recently millions of Today Show viewers watched an American family get "chipped" with ADS's VeriChip™ live from a doctor's office in Boca Raton.

* Meanwhile, terrorism has people in the mood these days to sacrifice their liberties... a National ID Bill masquerading as Immigration Reform is moving through the US Congress... and Digital Angel is expanding its mass production factory in Palm Beach, Florida ti facilitate the expectations.

WILL DIGITAL "MARKS" SOON BE MANDATORY?

Makers of implantable microchips claim the procedure will continue to be voluntary. But a report written by Elaine M. Ramish for the Franklin Pierce Law Center says: "A [mandatory] national identification system via microchip implants could be achieved in two stages: Upon introduction as a voluntary system, the microchip implantation will appear to be palatable. After there is a familiarity with the procedure and a knowledge of its benefits, implantation would be mandatory."

George Getz, the communications director for the Libertarian Party agreed, saying: "After all, the government has never forced anyone to have a driver license, [but] try getting along without one, when everyone from your local banker to the car rental man to the hotel operator to the grocery store requires one in order for you to take advantage of their services, that amounts to a de facto mandate. If the government can force you to surrender your fingerprints to get a drivers license, why can't it force you to get a computer chip implant?"

People like Mr. Getz are correct. Conservatives and liberals alike need to contact state and federal representatives and demand laws preserving individual rights before Digital Angel and similar forces lead humanity down a high-tech path of no return.

In the same way Social Security numbers were voluntary before becoming mandatory, biometric chip implants will be compulsory in the future unless citizens rise up in immediate and national opposition. Even Applied Digital Solution's chief executive officer Richard Sullivan envisions a scenario where ``people [are] required to be chipped or [have] some combination of a device requiring them to be scanned and monitored at all times.'' [1]

Note what the prophet said!

"And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark [charagma; [Greek charax] meaning to stake into or "stick into") in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark..." (Rev. 13:16-17a)

Will the New Pope Face the ET Question? Probably, But How Will He Answer?

By Thomas Horn
Senior RNU News Reporter

RNU.com – (Raiders News Update) In 1997, popular radio host Art Bell on his program Coast to Coast asked eminent catholic theologian and former Jesuit priest, Malachi Martin why the Vatican was heavily invested in the study of deep space at Mt Graham Observatory in southeastern Arizona. As a retired professor of the Pontifical Biblical Institute, Father Martin was uniquely qualified to hold in secret, information pertaining to the Vatican's Advanced Technology Telescope (VATT) project at the Mount Graham International Observatory (MGIO). Martin's answer ignited a firestorm of interest among Christian and secular UFOlogists:

Father Martin: "Because the mentality, the attitude, mentality amongst those who [are] at the higher levels, highest levels of Vatican administration and geopolitics, know that, now, knowledge of what's going on in space, and what's approaching us, could be of great import in the next five years, ten years."

The cryptic words "...what's approaching us, could be of great import in the next five years, ten years," was followed in subsequent interviews with discussion of a mysterious "sign in the sky" that Father Malachi believed was approaching from the North. Martin passed away in 1999 but not before allegedly telling his good friend Art Bell "a secret," which some believe relates to the space object and the 5-10 year timeframe. In either case, we stand today at the threshold of Father Malachi's words, and with less than 24 months remaining in his prediction.

Would Earthly Religions Survive ET Disclosure?

If suddenly visitors from beyond our space or understanding landed on the White House lawn, how would the world's political and religious leaders respond? Paul Davies of The Atlantic Monthly wrote in 2003 that the discovery of even a single bacterium somewhere beyond Earth could force mankind to revise its understanding of who we are and where we fit into the cosmic scheme of things. Davies speculated that such a find could throw the human race into a spiritual identity crisis that could leave some gasping for faith in God.

In contrast, the Alexander UFO Religious Crisis Survey of ministers indicated that a majority of people--both religious and non-religious--not only believe in but could accept a genuine ET reality without throwing away God with the bathwater.

Davies hopes this is true. As a cosmologist he sees order in the universe, including the anthropic balances that make life possible elsewhere. This has led to a deep personal interest in the subject of God and ET in which his response to either an ET discovery or visitation would be compatible to his religious ideas. He says the discovery of extraterrestrial life might actually substantiate biblical creation, not challenge it, if mankind is--as the Alexander UFO Religious Crisis Survey suggests--ready for it.

Professor Anthony Tambasco of Georgetown University not only believes the world--including its religious people--is ready for ET, but responding to NASA's recent press releases about life potentially existing on Mars, he said that if the discovery of life is substantiated, "it will not unravel traditional biblical convictions, but rather provide an opportunity to enlarge or broaden them."

In a related CCN article, Sayyid Syeed of the Islamic Society of North America said, "Most Muslims would also welcome the discovery of life off of Earth." The Koran refers to Allah as the God of 'worlds,' he said, not just one world.

Rabbi James Ruden of the American Jewish Committee says most Jews also leave open the possibility of life on other planets in their interpretation of Genesis.

But What If ET Is Already Here, And He's the Devil?

"I have become thoroughly convinced that UFOs are real," popular Christian writer Hal Lindsey once wrote. "I believe these beings are not only extraterrestrial but supernatural in origin. To be blunt, I think they are demons."

Bestselling author and researcher Dr. Lynn Marzulli agrees, depicting alien visitors in his Nephilim books as malevolent forces bent on enslaving the human race.

In Angels Dark and Light, Gary Kinnaman writes that he accepts UFO sightings as the manifestations of angels of darkness. "My main reason for thinking this is that UFO sightings have never, at least to my knowledge, led a person closer to God. In fact, most UFO experiences have just the opposite effect."

Associate professor of psychology Elizabeth L. Hillstrom points out in her book Testing the Spirits that a growing number of scholars support similar conclusions of UFOnauts being synonymous with historical demons. She wrote:

From a Christian perspective, Vallee’s explanation of UFOs is the most striking because of its parallels with demonic activity. UFO investigators have noticed these similarities. Vallee himself, drawing from extrabiblical literature on demonic activities, establishes a number of parallels between UFOnauts and demons....Pierre Guerin, a UFO researcher and a scientist associated with the French National Council for Scientific Research, is not so cautious: "The modern UFOnauts and the demons of past days are probably identical." Veteran researcher John Keel, who wrote UFOs: Operation Trojan Horse and other books on the subject, comes to the same conclusion: "The UFO manifestations seem to be, by and large, merely minor variations of the age-old demonological phenomenon."
Other experts including some Christian theologians caution against connecting ET with demonology or similar preliminary conclusions.

To Boldly Go Where Someone Already Is?

Regardless of the position one takes, contact with extraterrestrial life forms has never been closer and the reality of sudden disclosure has entered the mainstream of theological and scientific academia like a battering ram.

In the past five years ESA and NASA scientists have confirmed there were once huge bodies of water on Mars where life could have evolved, and that there might still be water underground and in deep caves where life forms continue to thrive. Elsewhere, astronomers are finding more and more extrasolar planets where the potential for harboring life could exist.

When I asked a friend with top security clearance--whose name and position with the government I won't mention for obvious reasons--what he thought about all of this, here is what he gave me:

But--and here is what you don't know yet--it then photographed something that defied explanation… something that wasn’t supposed to be seen... something you'll know about soon enough.

I wondered if this was a reference to what look like artificial structures on Mars, such as these.

I understand now it's much more substantial.

Will the new Pope face the ET Question?

The chances look better than ever.

Video Shows UFO Moving Through Sky Behind St. Peter's During Pope John Paul II Funeral?

RNU.com – (Raiders News Update) - Indianapolis News Channel 8 released a video taken Thursday evening of St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City showing what appears to be an unidentified flying object moving across the upper left portion of the screen. The video, taken from a network feed camera at around 6:00 am Roman time, was filmed as Pope John Paul II lay in state.

24 Hour News 8 meteorologists said the white object seen passing on a diagonal trajectory from the upper middle part of the screen to the left could possibly be a bird. Others were not so sure.

A long history of UFO sightings in connection to momentous or major religious historical events has caught the eye of reporters down through time. One can actually follow the life of Christ in connection to UFO appearances. Based on the depictions of some of the era artists and records keepers, not all of these 'UFOs' were birds; many appear to be something else.

For a sampling of historical UFO sightings related to the life and finally the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Go Here: More On UFO Filmed Moving Through Sky Behind St. Peter's During The Pope's Funeral

One can only wonder what the latest slate of 'sightings' from around the world and timed at the passing of Pope John Paul II may mean.

RFID Is Getting Under People's Skin

By Ellen Messmer
Network World (US)

Joseph Krull doesn't have a chip on his shoulder. But he has one in it.
The San Antonio security consultant is one of a small but growing number of people who essentially turn themselves into wireless network nodes for the sake of making personal information available to authorized parties with the wave of a radio frequency identification (RFID) scanner.

In Krull's case, the chip was implanted two months ago so hospital staff could access his medical information quickly in emergency situations. Others are "getting chipped," as those in the know call it, for everything from entertainment to personal safety.

Krull's chip is basically the same kind of RFID-based technology that's been used for years to tag dogs so they can be identified if lost, except the human chip works on a different radio frequency.

Applied Digital, on behalf of its subsidiary VeriChip, got authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) last October to sell the chips for human implantation, about 1,000 chips have gone live.

"I have a blown pupil, a detached retina, in my left eye from a skiing accident," says Krull, explaining his decision to have a physician with a syringe stick a chip in him under local anesthetic in what he described as a fairly simple procedure. "I'm supposed to wear a MedAlert bracelet because one of the indicators of a head injury is a blown pupil. One thing they might do in that kind of emergency is drill holes in your skull."

The thought of having holes unnecessarily drilled into his head, because of a misdiagnosis during a medical emergency, got Krull thinking about having a chip implanted after he heard about it during a conference in Spain. "I wanted to get chipped," he says.

His family – wife, sisters, nephews and nieces – was wary.

"They said, 'Are you nuts?' They had a lot of questions, like will the chip be visible or is there a risk of rejection," Krull says.

Now officially human No. 1020000000, Krull can access his personal data stored online at VeriChip's portal and make any changes he wants by using a reader and a PIN code. Krull elected to store his medical information and address, phone numbers, fax and e-mail at the Web site.

While his family has grown relaxed about it all, "the biggest opposition is from people in my own field - security," Krull points out. Critics say the chip poses a huge privacy and security threat that will let the government and private-sector snoops get personal information.

Krull says he understands the point of view taken by some privacy advocates but contends there's little value in keeping information such as the condition of his eyeball a secret.

"It's entirely up to me what I put on my chip," he says. "I've been involved with authentication for 20 years, working with biometrics, and I was promoting the token. Now I am the token."
Fellow implantees include the attorney general of Mexico City and some of his staff, who were chipped to help identify them in the event that they become crime victims. Some are getting implants just for kicks - a nightclub in Glasgow, Scotland, called Bar Soba, offers to implant chips in its guests so the bar can prepare each patron's favorite drink the minute he walks in.

The Doctor Is InAlso getting a chip shot was John Halamka, the CIO at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston and Harvard Medical School and a practicing physician. Halamka got chipped last December in an experiment of his own making.

The outspoken CIO says he's had "no side effects, no pain, no change in muscle function and no migration of the chip" in the months it's been in him, despite rock and ice climbing where Halamka exposed himself to "extremes of temperature, wind, water."

Halamka decided to be a chip guinea pig as the result of experiences he had while working in emergency medicine at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Carson, Calif. Emergency care often put him in the situation of having to identify patients who were without ID documents and unconscious, non-verbal or mentally ill. That often involved picking out clues found in their belongings such as a clothing label.

"I would inevitably reunite the patients with their loved ones, but not before significant worry and possibly unwanted medical interventions had occurred," Halamka says.

In his CIO role Halamka is responsible for all clinical, financial, educational and research technologies for 3,000 doctors, 12,000 employees and 2 million patients. After the FDA approved the implantable chip, "I felt I was in a unique position to pilot the technology," Halamka says. "That means that when a scanner is passed within 6 inches of my arm, my medical identifier is displayed and can be used by authorized healthcare workers to retrieve information about my identity and medical history via a secure Web site."

Halamka emphasizes his role at present is not that of chip advocate for hospitals but as a real-life test case. Though he says that Alzheimer's patients might benefit from RFID chips one day, as long as it's clear the patients gave informed consent to have a chip implanted.

The chip is expected to last at least 10 years based on pet experience. Halamka says it's safe for MRI scans, and he sees no evidence the chip can be deactivated through magnetic energy. "I have flown to several dozen cities since the implant and have not triggered any airline security systems," he notes. The chip is not a GPS.

The unique ID transmitted by the VeriChip human-implantable chip isn't encrypted, so it could be read by a compatible reader. But unauthorized reading of the chip doesn't disclose any specific health information, he adds, because that's on a closed Web site.

However, Halamka says there are privacy concerns that should be addressed. He points out that an RFID scanner theoretically could record his presence while he was making a purchase, and on a repeat visit it would be possible to identify him and his previous purchases using that information for marketing purposes.

"Spam, generated by the presence of your body, is theoretically possible," he says. He says there's no legislation to preclude RFID scanning of an individual for anonymous tracking, which could be "analogous to the spyware and adware infecting our computers after surfing Internet sites." The potential for hacker abuse shouldn't be underestimated, he adds.

The security issue "must be understood as one of the risks of having an implanted identifier," Halamka says.

Nonetheless, he has listed his identifier as part of his medical record in the Beth Israel Deaconess medical record system, called CareWeb, so that a physician, with his consent, could enter the RFID tag information to retrieve his medical history.

"I have no regrets," Halamka says about the whole implant experience, even though removing the chip would require minor surgery. And he would consider upgrading himself with a new chip, too, should a better one come along.

Veterans Group With 118 Chapters Calls on Congress to Impeach George W. Bush and Richard Cheney

ST. LOUIS--On March 30, a national veterans’ organization called for the removal of President George W. Bush and Vice-President Richard Cheney for crimes the group charges were committed during the invasion and occupation of Iraq.

In a letter sent to each member of the US House and Senate, Veterans For Peace (VFP) stated that “...This administration’s war on Iraq, in addition to being increasingly unpopular among Americans, is an unmistakable violation of our Constitution and federal law which you have sworn to uphold. In our system, the remedy for such high crimes is clear: this administration must be impeached.”

David Cline, a decorated Vietnam War combat veteran and VFP president, said in a prepared statement to the press, "We do not make this call lightly and as former members of the US armed forces, we take our responsibilities as citizens very seriously. For that reason we believe that when our government conducts a war of aggression on Iraq and commits a growing and appalling series of what must legally be considered war crimes and crimes against humanity in the execution of that war, it violates Article VI of the US Constitution, the War Crimes Act of 1996 (18 U.S.C. § 2441), and numerous international treaties which are legally binding on our nation."

Cline continued, "We are not the first group to call for impeachment. We have decided to add our voice to the call. All the reasons given for the invasion have shown themselves to be half-truths or misleading. The conflict continues to drag on taking the lives of our soldiers and innocent Iraqis. It is clear that George Bush does not intend to change course in an effort to right this great wrong. He has had enough time in his second term to begin a shift and he has not. It is time to remove him from office."

Veterans For Peace is seeking individual and organizational supporters to work jointly on the effort to impeach the resident. To read the VFP letter to Congress and review the US and international laws the VFP claims the Bush administration has violated, just click here.

Veterans For Peace is a 5,000-member national organization founded in 1985, with 118 chapters across the country.
